Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Thursday in the George A. Brewer Funeral Chapel, 8603 Ross, for Dr. Elma May Fry, 65-year-old obstetrician and gynecologist who died Wednesday at her home, 5449 Emerson, after a long illness.
Dean Gerald G. Moore of St. Matthew's Cathedral officiated. Interment will be at Mountain Grove, Mo.
Born Sept. 16, 1887, in Mountain Grove, she decided at an early age that her life would be devoted to medicine, and in 1918 she enrolled in a pre-medical course at Valparaiso University. Eight years later, in 1926, she received her Doctorate of Medicine from Rush Medical School at Chicago.
Dr. Fry first came to Dallas in 1927 and spent a year as an interne at Baylor Hospital. After completing her internship, she stayed on at Baylor as a resident in surgery. After a year's residency, Dr. Fry left Dallas to study for a year in Vienna, Austria, returning in 1929 to practice here as an obstetrician and gynecologist. She had practiced here since that time, although she had limited her practice since becoming ill last year.
She was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Association Knife and Fork Club, Business and Professional Women's Club and the Altrusa Club.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. William True of Springfield, Mo., and three nieces. Members of the Dallas County Medical Society will be honorary pallbearers.
