Sylvania Turner Neal

In memory of Sylvania Neal, who departed this life August 27th 1903.

Deceased was born January 4, 1829. She was married to J.M. Neal, of Knox County, Tennessee in 1845. To this union nine children were born, of which four are living. She leaves two sons and two daughters, 61 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, and a host of friends who mourn their loss.

She came to Texas County in 1850 and had since resided here. She professed faith in Christ at an early age and has always lived a Christian life. Her husband died during the Civil War and the task of raising her children was left for grandma. She succeeded in bringing them up as honorable men and women. Her eldest son, Wesley, stayed with and helped her until he reached the age of 24, after this she was assisted by her younger son James, who preceded her to that better land three years ago. During the last few years she has stayed among her children, remaining part of the time with one then another. She died at her daughters, Mrs. A.B. Gladden.

She was sick only a few days, and all that loving hands could do was done, till death came to her relief Thursday night. She passed peacefully away at 12 o'clock. She said she was prepared to go, and we have the blessed assurance of meeting grandma where parting will be no more, but all is peace and love. We know that her feet, worn with the toil of the years, have touched the golden sand. She is now with the Angels. "Our loss is her eternal gain".

To her sons and daughters we will say: "Weep not, dear ones, for she is at rest. She is sweetly sleeping; her spirit has gone to God that gave it."

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Johnson. Her body was laid to rest in Liberty Cemetery Saturday morning.

Dear Grandma, thou hast left us, your voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our homes which never can be filled.
