James Hiram Peterson

James Hiram Peterson died at his home here Sunday morning [Feb. 6, 1944] following a paralytic stroke.  But he had been in failing health for several months.

Mr. Peterson was born May 6, 1863, near Monticello, Lewis Co., Missouri.  There he grew to manhood and attended rural schools.

As a boy he was converted and united with the Christian Church.  When he moved to Mountain Grove about 7 years ago he united with the First Baptist Church.

His vocation in life was that of a farmer and he was active until forced by ill health to retire.

After the death of his parents he made his home with his stepmother, Mrs. Mary Peterson, who tenderly cared for him during his illness.

Mr. Peterson was congenial in disposition and always had a kind word for all.  He dearly loved children and they loved him.

Besides his stepmother he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Janie Eifert of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Ollie Castonquary of Flint, Michigan, and a brother Jairus Peterson of Visalia, California.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon with Rev. A. S. Olsen officiating.  Burial was in Cabool Cemetery where he was laid to rest in the family plot beside his father and mother.
